City of Olympia Rental Registry Program goals

The Rental Registry program will proactively address unit conditions before major repairs are needed – which supports both stability and health outcomes for tenants and preserves housing quality over time. Many other Washington cities have implemented similar programs (such as Burien, Kent, Lakewood, Seattle, Tacoma, and Tukwila).

The goals are:

• Ensuring basic health and safety for tenants

• Housing preservation

• Supporting landlords by sharing information and resources

• Gathering data about housing trends to target needs

  
  What is required?

Owners of long-term rental properties in

Olympia city limits

are required to:

• Obtain a business license from the Department of Revenue (as of March 1, 2024)

• Register annually with the City (as of March 1, 2024)

• Undergo an inspection by a City-approved third-party inspector once every 5 years.

• As a resident of Thurston County, I can help you meet the City of Olympia requirement for these rental inspections on the properties you rent.

• I will be providing these inspections starting at $349. The scheduler on this page will let you know the cost of the inspection for your property.

• You may also elect to have a full home inspection completed. For a few more dollars you’ll be provided a comprehensive and thorough assessment of your rental propertys condition.
